Dimensi ban biasanya dinyatakan dalam bentuk : ” 205 / 55 / ZR16″, Keterangan tersebut dapat dijabarkan sebagai berikut :

• 205 : Lebar telapak ban (mm)
• 55 : Aspek ratio untuk ketebalan ban (%) dari lebar telapak ban
• Z : Kode limit kecepatan
• R16 : Diameter velg (inch)

Kode limit kecepatan :

• S < 180km/jam,
• T < 190km/jam,
• H < 210km/jam,
• V < 240km/jam,
• Z > 240km/jam.

Untuk ban Jeep biasanya dipakai kode Amerika, seperti : “33 x 12.5 R15″, Keterangan tersebut dapat dijabarkan sebagai berikut :

• 33 : Tinggi keseluruhan / diameter ban (inch)
• 12.5 : Lebar telapak ban (inch)
• R15 : Diameter velg (inch)

Contoh : 75/70 R 13 82 T

175    Lebar telapak dalam milimeter

70    Aspect ratio dalam % (tinggi (tebal ban) sidewall dibagi dengan lebar telapak

M&S – Identifies Mud and Snow tyres

DOT Codes – Coding satisfying the requirements of the US Department of Transportation contain a mixture of letters and numbers such as DOT DVDE MTA 129. These identify the place of manufacture.

E-Marks – Tyres for sale in the European Community must carry an E -Mark in accordance with ECE Reg 30 – eg E4 027550.

Kode Produksi Ban

Banyak orang tidak tahu bahwa yang paling penting adalah kode waktu produksi daripada ban. Ban akan expired (kedaluwarsa) dalam waktu tiga tahun setelah ban tersebut dibuat. Nah untuk membaca adalah sebagai berikut:

Kode produksi dicetak pada salah satu sisi ban lihat gambar 1 & 2, dengan marking unik mirip peneng. Setiap pabrik ban memiliki jumlah digit tersendiri untuk kode tersebut, ada 5 digit, ada pula yang 7 digit. Tetapi 4 DIGIT dari belakang adalah standard international yang menunjukkan MINGGU (WEEK) dan TAHUN (YEAR) ban tersebut dibuat

Nah jika ketika anda membeli ban baru tetapi toko menyodorkan ban yang sudah kedaluwarsa … anda berhak menolaknya Memakai ban expired berarti terancam pecah ban di jalan Sebaiknya waktu pemakaian pun tidak lewat dari masa expired tersebut. Ideal 2 tahun ban diganti total

D.O.T. Number

The tire may contain a D.O.T. number. The last three digits show the year and week that the tire was manufactured. e.g., a tire stamped 324 means the tire was made in the 32nd week of 1994. Hopefully, it will not be too difficult to tell the difference in a tire made in 1984 from one made in 1994. Tires suffer from sunlight, ozone, and aging deterioration. You should choose the newer tire when the opportunity exists.

The ISO have several relevant standsards, 4249 and 5751.

They also have some on stablility with side and centre stands… and other things to do specifically with motorcycles.

Some people say that a tyre with a lower speed rating gets more mileage…

This is said to be due to the lower speed rated tyre having a deeper tread, the very high-speed tyres have to have a shallow tread or they heat up too much. Others say the high-speed tyres have a harder compound so last longer. Good luck with your choice.

A date of manufacture code may exit on your tyre. It is a 3-digit code, first two numbers indicate week of the year 1-52, last number indicates singles digit of year, i.e., 8 could be 1988 or 1998.
